Levaquin (levofloxacin) is a medicine from the group of drugs called fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It is prescribed for the bacteria-induced infections of skin, sinuses, bladder, kidney or prostate. Your doctor can also prescribe this medicine to help you to deal with pneumonia or bronchitis. Being allergic to levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, lomefloxacin, moxifloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin is a contraindication for taking Levaquin. Your doctor needs to know you full medical history before prescribing this drug. Tell your health care provider if you have or ever had diabetes, seizures or epilepsy, low potassium levels in blood, liver or kidney disease, or joint problems.
Do not take vitamin or mineral supplements, antacids, didanosine along with Levaquin as they may make it less effective. Make sure 2 hours can pass between the two drugs. This medicine is FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known for sure whether this drug can cause harm to an unborn baby. Levofloxacin can pass into breast milk affecting the health of the nursing infant. If you think you may have become pregnant while taking this medicine contact your doctor right away to avoid health complications.
